Dr. Insecta Bio

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, this former US Navy diver, humorist, illusion designer and insect aficionado has performed on stage for nearly forty years.

Bill Maxwell (aka Dr. Insecta) has presented his ground-breaking performance across America at such venues as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), science centers including The Cincinnati Museum of Natural History, numerous college outreach theater performances, metro parks and nature centers and countless elementary and middle schools throughout the United States. Dr. Insecta has been seen on major television networks including NBC, CBS and FOX.

First in the world to combine the science of entomology with the art of magic, Dr, Insecta, inadvertently created a new educational performance art genre. Bill defines Bug Lab as an “Ed-Fun-Cational” Eco Insect Adventure, but hundreds of thousands of children and adults simply know it as The Incredible Unforgettable Bug Lab Experience.

The persona of Dr. Insecta is an amalgamation of many characters that Bill has perfected throughout his stage career. Some of his most influential contemporaries include Doug Henning; Harry Blackstone, Jr.; Bill Nye, the science guy; and of course, Penn and Teller.

Although Bug Lab is not a magic show, the illusions in the show provide the perfect platform to dramatically introduce audiences to the most interesting and essential animals on the planet! Bug Lab’s ultimate goal is to educate, encourage and inspire young entomologists of the future to discover this ever-expanding science of insects, who allow us to share their world.
